What is LOGOS ?

LOGOS is a Wednesday night ministry of Christian nurture for children and youth (grades K-12) and the whole church. It is a structured "retreat every week," providing all the dynamics of a good camp/conference program, but experienced in the context of congregational life. It promotes the growth of cross-generational relationships which bond the entire congregation into an authentic community of faith.

The LOGOS Ministry strongly supports the commitment that each of us is a Child of God and should be treated with the kind of respect, love, and support that is expected by God's great commandment. At the heart of our weekly LOGOS ministry are the Christian relationships that truly connect people and energize the nurturing of young people. In today's world, LOGOS can offer young people the chance to enjoy a truly different experience…kingdom of God living.

The Four Parts of LOGOS

LOGOS strives to build Christian relationships in a four-part retreat experience every week, following the example of the early church: "They devoted themselves to the apostle's teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." Acts 2:42, NRSV

Each LOGOS class uses a ge appropriate curriculum. What the children and youth learn in Bible study is practiced in the other three parts.

In Worship Skills young people learn about worship and prepare to lead in the Sunday morning service of worship. This is typically done through singing, bell, or speaking choirs, drama, or movement and dance. Relationships are rooted in worship.

They participate in games and active play, do crafts, or experience the hobby or special interest of a member of the congregation. When we reveal ourselves in play, we strengthen friendships, and when conflicts occur, we practice our Child of God theology. A time to build relationships through shared interests and fun with many peers and adults in the congregation.

Young people are assigned to tables along with two adults who act as "table parents." The group around the table becomes a family as they share meals, conversation, “holy hilarity” through games and activities, and a brief time of worshiping together throughout the year. Food is served family style. Conversation is purposeful. Life is celebrated!
